The global plant-based chocolate market continues to grow. In 2021, Gudrun was the first company in Belgium to introduce plant-based chocolates. Today, we are proud to unveil Plant Choc, an assortment of plant-based delicacies crafted and refined by our maître-chocolatier. This unique collection redefines the art of savoring Premium Belgian chocolates with a mindful twist.
Premium Belgian chocolate has always been about purity, combining the best cocoa and finest ingredients with authentic craftsmanship. In recent years, sustainability has become a key focus in the creation of new recipes. But can we still enjoy premium chocolate without worrying about its impact on the environment?
Plant-based is the future
In 2024, the global plant-based chocolate market was valued at $1.3 billion, with projections indicating a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.9% from 2023 to 2030. In Europe alone, this market is worth €500 million and is growing at an impressive annual rate of 10%.
This rising interest is particularly noticeable among younger consumers. In France, for instance, 49% of 16-24-year-olds have tried plant-based chocolate in the past three months, compared to just 17% of those aged 45-54.
Why plant-based?
There are several reasons why plant-based chocolates are rapidly gaining popularity:
- Health Benefits: many consumers are seeking healthier food options, yet chocolate has long been considered a guilty pleasure. Plant-based alternatives typically contain lower levels of saturated fats and no cholesterol, offering a more health-conscious choice.
- Animal Welfare: the shift to plant-based products is often driven by ethical concerns. Plant-based chocolates avoid the use of animal-derived ingredients such as milk, butter, whey powder, and gelatin.
- Sustainability: plant-based products generally have a smaller environmental footprint compared to animal-based counterparts, making them an eco-friendly alternative.
Plant Choc: plant-based pralines and truffles
With the Plant Choc assortment, our maître-chocolatier has elevated the plant-based concept to new heights. “Many consumers are unaware that even dark chocolate truffles can contain milk-derived ingredients like lactose and whey powder”, explains Gerald De Brandt. “I reviewed Gudrun’s recipes and selected noble ingredients that maintain the chocolates’ smooth and creamy texture. Indulgence in a mindful way.”
Indulgence, that’s what it’s all about. Plant Choc lets consumers savor the familiar craftsmanship and quality of Premium Belgian chocolates – guilt-free and without compromising on taste.
